This was a fun read, and your four blues pictures *really* emphasized the point. I was fairly obsessed with the original Color Me Beautiful book in the '80s and '90s and took it out of the library over and over again. No one in my family ever had their colors professionally done that I know of, but the book did help my mom understand why my older sibling kept on picking black clothes--they're a winter, while my mom and I are summers, and my red-haired grandmother who kept on pushing yellow dresses on my mom in her girlhood was, duh, an autumn.

(It's also kind of fun to think about color seasons in terms of houses. I always objected to that "conventional advice" of "decorate your house with the same colors you like to wear" because I love a yellow room but loathe wearing yellow except as part of rainbows. And I only just realized it's because my house is an autumn. The tone of the woodwork means that the blues we have in two rooms lean very strongly green, and then deep green and warm yellow in two other rooms go very nicely.)

YES for houses! Though I suppose that makes things tricky if you're an autumn and your house is an autumn but members of your family are winters or something. I definitely choose paint colors with blue undertones rather than yellow ones despite loving the ambiance of warmer rooms because I just know I won't look good in them!

Wow Ive never thought about houses being seasons but I love that idea!! As soon as I read your comment I looked at my living room and was like “Spring.” And I can see how the bright teal chair fits so much better than the cool dark blue bench. Thanks for this idea!

Wow - those blue pictures are maybe the most compelling evidence I've seen that this isn't all a scam!! (On top of my newfound love of olive green)

I so hope you get a first (or at least) early edition! The photographs are... let's use the word classic. Haha.

I still remember the pictures of the woman with the cool-toned turtleneck sweater and lipstick and then the warm-toned turtleneck sweater and lipstick, and I went, "well, orange lipstick is certainly a choice..."

You can see it really clearly if you hold up different reds/pinks against your face, too!

I was travelling with a friend who is not into the seasons thing, but she has heard me talk about it ad nauseum. At some point she had to get something out of my closet and she said seeing all my clothes hung up together made her get how sticking to a seasonal palette gives your wardrobe a cohesive theme. This is another great benefit of thinking in palettes. Most items will happen to go well together, without you thinking about it!
